Denise's Testimony

One night when I was young, my father came home from an evangelistic meeting. I overheard him telling my mother about the many people who had been “saved” that night.  I asked him, “What do you mean—they were saved?”

 

He then took me aside and explained what the Bible said about salvation:

• God loves every human being. He wants all of us to live with Him in heaven someday (John 3:16; 2 Peter 3:9).
• But none of us meet the standard of right conduct that is required to live in heaven (Romans 3:23).
• In fact, we all deserve to be punished (Romans 6:23).
• But God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to stand in our place and take our punishment (Romans 5:8).
• If we admit our inability to enter heaven on our own merit and accept that Jesus became our replacement, God will extend to us the privilege of entering heaven when we die (Romans 10:9).

 

I listened carefully to what my dad said. When he asked me if I wanted to accept Jesus as my Savior, I nodded my head. We prayed together and I accepted God’s gift of salvation that night.

 

Years later, as a teenager, I decided to show my gratitude for my salvation by making a commitment to study the Bible. I began to use the Word of Life Quiet Time Diary, which gave me a daily passage to read and a space to write what the passage said and how I could apply its content to my daily life.

 

I have never regretted the time I have invested in reading and studying God’s Word. As David wrote, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105).  My father often said, “The solution to every problem you face is contained in God’s Word. Just ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you.”
